Hello,I looked on a few of these sites, Steam, Lutris etc. And while I understand that on any of them it will take a learning curve with plenty of hassles to get any of the games they "support" to run, I have a different issue with them.
And that is that I didn't find any games that interested me enough to invest the time and skull sweat it would take to get running.
The last game I actually purchased and enjoyed was Myst. Been in fire fights in real life, so the shoot 'em up games look absolutely laughable. Pretty much the same for the other genres. Just nothing there that looks interesting. I guess I just don't have the capacity to suspend my link with reality enough to immerse myself in anything totally removed from the possible.
Now if someone can put a game out there like Myst, or the one game I play on Facebook, Criminal Case, I may invest the effort, but I really don't see that happening.
Sorry for ranting, but even someone like me enjoys playing a game once in a while and it gets frustrating when you can't find one worth the time to get running on any platform.
There a so many games now that are easily accessible on Linux, it would be a shame if you can't find something that interests you. Myst is available on Steam and is fully verified and runs like a dream. Just as an example of virtually pain-free game options (that's where I have literally just loaded them and they worked without even fine tuning which version of Proton to use) the following all run nicely: Automobilista 2 - Driving Sim, Mini Metro - Little railway map puzzler, Truberbrook - Mystery detective type game, Half Life 2 - Old school FPS, Mortal Kombat 11 - Beat-em up, Total War: Medieval II - Grand Strategy.
All the games mentioned work and are varied genres. There is a huge range of games that require a very small amount of effort to play if they interest you. It sometimes looks complicated when some of the people on the forums share what steps they take, but remember they tend to be more proficient than the man on the street so often are making tweaks to further improve the experience or tailor things to their specific liking.
If you like games with a great story/theme; Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is £9.99 on Steam right now. It has ME 1, 2 and 3 with expansions and has uprated graphics now (and in up to 4k too). If it's just a game to dip in and out of there games like Bloons TD6 (or TD5 for that matter) which are great fun and you can play for half an hour or three hours; whatever your mood decides, and they are really inexpensive right now. The game I mentioned above, Truberbrook, may be somewhat similar to Criminal Case. It's an Indie game (so not expensive) and looks fantastic. I know it might sound weird, but also consider some of the more mundane sims; Farming Simulator sounds so wrong, but is really quite immersive when you get going and it was fun.
I hope this is helpful and you find something that you enjoy.
Be Lucky.
