Storage • Re: Choosing SSD for Dual Boot

Hey all! With black friday & holiday sales on the way, I am looking to get the parts for my first PC build, which I plan to dual boot linux mint/windows 10 on. I looked into it, and it seems to avoid windows updater issues with dual boot, it's a good idea to use 2 separate drives. Should I be looking at getting 2 SSDs that can be installed straight into the motherboard? Or should I be looking at external SSDs that connect via SATA cable? Or should I be looking at something different entirely when it comes to storage?

Most "first PC" building guides assume windows as a forgone conclusion, and especially don't cover best practices for a dual boot build; and advanced guides are filled with more jargon than I am comfortable understanding. (While I am a noob to PC building, I did somewhat study computers back in college, and the knowledge gaps I do have feel silly as a result.) Anyone here have advice on which kinds of parts I should be on the lookout for when it comes to storage?
Separate drive for win os is good.
Just make sure to install grub bootloader to the linux drive.
I use smaller drives for os (256gb) and rely on a 2tb spinner for local storage.
The external sata would be great for offloading important backup files for cold storage.
